I was recently watching the Joy Behar show and they were discussing Elton John's recent comments that Jesus was gay! Couldn't help but laugh out loud since I wrote about this topic in 2008..............tongue in cheek! Enjoy, enjoy!!

  This hypothetical question popped into my head the other day after I heard a minister on television say that, “Jesus definitely did not approve of gays.” My thought is, “How could Jesus not approve of gays since he created all of us in his own image?”

  Now let’s ask, “What was the image of Jesus Christ, the Son of God?” Well for a starter, he was a good Jewish boy that lived at home with his mother until he died. He had no girlfriends that we know of except for his friend, Mary Magdalene. She was a prostitute who was probably one of the early celebrities in the gay holy land. Mary would have been a biblical Madonna or Cher type personality.  

Jesus never married or had children that we know of unless you are a fan of The DaVinci  Code that most churches are quick to denounce. His best friends were the twelve apostles who were all men just like him. Granted some of the apostles were married men. But if Jesus were gay, “Why couldn’t some of his close friends be bi-sexual?”  

Then there is the way he dressed. Jesus wore long, flowing gowns, great sandals and had fabulous hair. I’m not saying he was a cross dresser but the clothes he wore were very similar to the ones his Mother and Mary Magdalene wore. Also, I think it is rather interesting that now his male priests and ministers dress more outrageously for services than most women.

“Wouldn’t be amazing if we find out that Jesus was not only a fabulous, darling guy but he was the Boy from Oz?” The original one!

I grew up in the 50's with practical parents. A mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it.

She was the original recycle queen, before they had a name for it...

A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.

I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress Things we keep.

It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.

But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.

Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away....never to return. So... while we have it... it's best we love it.... and care for it... and fix it when it's broken........ and heal it when it's sick.

This is true. for marriage..... and old cars..... and children with bad report cards..... and dogs with bad hips.... and aging parents..... and grandparents.

We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with.

There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special........ and so, we keep them close!

I received this from someone who thinks I am a 'keeper', so I've sent it to the people I think of in the same way.. Now it's your turn to send this to those people that are "keepers" in your life.

Good friends are like stars....

You don't always see them, but you know they are always there. Keep them close!

TEN THINGS GOD WON'T ASK ON THAT DAY.

1.... God won't ask what kind of car you drove.
He'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation.

2. .. God won't ask the square footage of your house.
He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home.

3.... God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet.

The 10! is an unprecedented concept OF promoting, marketing and branding TEN professional female athletes from TEN different sports derived from an elimination drama reality series.

Over 20 athletes are being considered and are hoping for a chance at the 10! Chris "Jesus' Ferguson getting some advice from my friend, Greg, one of my "Be a Smiley...Not a Whiney!" gallery supporting me during the World Series of Golf. Actually Chris confided in me that poker players are much bigger whiners than golfers! Of course that is probably because Chris ("Jesus" to poker players) beats more poker players than golfers. I just watched his latest commercial for Full Tilt Poker. net and he looks like the badest, meanest guy in Veags but he really is such a sweetheart . I loved playing golf with him and hope to interview him soon on my radio show.

World Series of Golf premiered this weekend on WGN America and it was so much fun to finally see the show and watch all the other players do their things while getting in a little promo for my book and radio show. It is reality golf played with real people who are trying to play golf in front of television cameras !!!!!!!! Needless to say, the premise is amusing and somethime even amazing.

The good news for me is that I'm not shown playing golf in the first episode just partying and socializing and that's what I do best. be sure to tune in next weekend for more reality golf.

Danny Negreanu who is the sweetest guy in the world even when he's taking you down and January along with fellow golfer Norwegian 3rd Place Winner K. J. Fohannesen! Even though, K. J. and January traded hats K. J. did not make that putt!

January Jones will be playing in the World Series of Golf to be televised this week on WGN America in a golf and poker format with a top prize of $300,000. This event is a reality golf competition that was played earlier this year at The Pauite Resort in Las Vegas. It will be aired in 13 weekly episodes starting on Saturday, July 11th at 1:00 am EST.

Ms. Jones was 1 of 2 women in a field of 125 players. Her goal was to represent women golfers and all "chronologically challenged competitors" who love to play in the game of life as well as golf. Professional golf instructor, Roger Gunn, helped her to train and prepare for the tournament. He accompanied January to Las Vegas as her financial advisor and caddy during the competition.

To quote January, "Every woman alive, who plays golf knows it's not about how you play or perform but what you wear and how you handle winning or losing. Just ask, Susan Boyle!"

Ms. Jones will be playing in a field that includes top-flight golfers, entertainers such as actor Ray Romano, poker players and athletes including Future Hall of Fame pitcher, Greg Maddux. Ms. Jones played in a five-some that included Poker Superstars, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Danny Negreanu and Andy Bloch all with eyes on the top prize.

You're a 19-year-old kid. You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley, 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam. Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter and you look up to see an unarmed Huey, but it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.

He's coming anyway.

Even if she regards the news media as a mob of hyenas, I can almost feel sorry for Sarah Palin. I suspect it's hard to imagine how intensely exposed a person feels when she goes from being an obscure governor to a household name in the blink of an eye. And I can hardly blame her for wanting to escape the ceaseless scrutiny that goes with her fame and possible ambitions. Palin didn't ask to be nominated for vice president, and it wasn't really her fault that in a presidential campaign, she was in way over her head.

But she seems to think she's the only national candidate who ever got run through a brutal media gauntlet. She isn't. Ask Dan Quayle, Tom Eagleton, or Geraldine Ferraro. Gary Hart had reporters staking out his house to catch him in adultery. Joe Biden's 1988 presidential race got torpedoed by news revelations about a variety of embarrassing misdeeds. John Edwards had The National Enquirer lying in ambush this year, long after his race was over.

If you run for high office, you can expect every aspect of your life to be examined. And if there are things you'd rather keep to yourself, you're in the wrong place. Or, as Harry Truman put it, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

It was hardly a surprise that an inexperienced Alaskan politician would not be skilled with questions about foreign affairs and federal policy. Palin's greater failing was refusing to admit that she had a lot to learn--or, evidently, doing anything to overcome her weaknesses. Instead, she made herself out to be an innocent victim of a partisan press. In doing that, she looked not just underprepared but dishonest.

Many Republicans liked her because they saw her as what she claimed to be--a fighter. But her resignation brings to mind a boxer named Roberto Duran, whose chief claim to fame is that he abruptly halted a title fight that, to his surprise, he was losing. "No mas," he reportedly said. It was a surprise ending--almost as big a surprise as Palin's.

Michael Jackson Fans Cure for Dying without Whining!

In Memory of Farrah Fawcett

It was with great sadness that we learned of Farrah's passing yesterday. What an amazing woman and she will missed by everyone. Her brave battle against cancer was an example to everyone who is facing this horrible disease. Farrah died at St. John's Hospital here in Santa Monica and it brought back sad memories for me of when I lost my best friend, Jan Weber, from the same disease at St. John's in 2001.

Like Farrah, Jane waged a three year battle and at her funeral we played the ABBA song "I Believe in Angels" and I know that Jane will be there to welcome Farrah along with all the other heavanly angels. May they rest in peace and they will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

Here we are at the magnificent and inspiring Air Force Academy with our friends from The 114th Aviation Company that served to so bravely in Vietnam. Their reunion is a wonderful chance to re-connect with old comrades and meet their families.

Of course, they share war stories but mostly just the ones that make everyone laugh. This is definitely a NO-WHINE ZONE!

Speaking of not whining, I got to help a fellow Michigander from the UP, Barney Huberty, celebrate his 85th birthday with all our friends from The Country Clubs of The World in Bountiful, Utah. I'd never been there before but you can't believe how beautiful Bountiful is!

Wow, this has really been a busy week with my fabulous interview with Lynne Palazzi last Thursday on Whine Time with January Jones. Be sure to take the time to listen to our interview. I just wanted to thank Pat Hansen for the lovely interview that we did at KTVA last Saturday AM. Pat works with seniors so we talked about seniors and whining. It was such a delightful interview even if we were up with the birds. It was so great to see Tom Spence again who has been with KTVA for over 18 years. I always love going back to their studio because they always make me feel so welcome.

Now the big news for this week is that I will be on the road and in the air traveling to Bountiful, Utah to play in a golf tournament with my wonderful friends, Tom and Yvette Stark, with The Country Clubs of The World. Also Tom represents Tifosi Sunglasses and I was so thrilled to be wearing a red pair when I played in The World Series of Golf to be televised on June 28th on WGN America.

Then after Utah, we are flying into Colorado Springs and going to the Air Force Academy for a reunion of my husband's 114th Aviation Company. I'm sure it will be easy to recognize everyone since we haven't changed that much.......hardly at all!!!

While I am on the road, I will doing an interview on next Thursday, June 18th with Dr. Xiao Dong Yu, a humorist from China. I met Dr. Yue at the AATH convention in Vegas and can't wait to interview him on my show. Dr. Yue graduated from Harvard and Tufts Univeristy and now he is in The Dept. of Applied Social Studies at City University of Hong Kong.

There aren't too many humorists in China and this one is so special that I can't wait to share him with all of my listeners. Interestingly, he learned to speak English by listening to Voice America on the radio at night with his family when he was a little boy. As you can see from the picture abouve, he has the warmest smile and biggest heart in all of Hong Kong.

Well I'm finally getting around to sharing some of my video and photos from The World Series of Golf in Las Vegas. You will be seeing lots more when the show airs on WGN starting on June 28th with 13 episodes.

Here is one of my favorite poker guys, Andy Bloch, with me after we both were knocked out of the tournament and neither one of us is whining and we're both wearing our Smiley- Whiney pins to prove it.

The video of Ray Romano with us was taken as I was giving Andy his pin out on the golf course and Ray was politley watchiing and wondering when he would get his pin. He wasn't whing about it but getting close.

By the end of the tournament, we all could have been whining but we weren't! Actually Ray made it further than us and he lost in a playoff so he really played well. Tiy can listen to Andy's interview with my on my show for the June 14th episode when he talks with me about Joan Rivers calling poker players white trash!

Meet Kylie my singing grand-Dog!

I neglected to mention my grand-dog Kylie when I wrote about my grandchildren yesterday. How could I forget the world's most amazing singing dog?

As you can see, Kylie loves to perform and she can sing just about anything but not always in the right key.

Kylie loves Elvis and she her favorite song is Hound Dog, of course! She is a good girl and you can see why she's my favorite when it comes to grand-Dogs ..................even if she is the only one so far!

You must go and see the Movie "UP" as soon as possible.

We took our grandkids to see it yesterday and it was hard to say who enjoyed it more. We all loved it. It will be a classic for all ages and we'll be watching this one for a long time. It'll be right UP there with all of the Disney movies. You don't need to rent a kid to go but it's more fun when you have a little one with you just watching their faces is so much fun.

Here are all of our grandkids, we have three boys and three girls and who could ask for anything more? It really is true that your grandchildren are your reward for not killing your children.

Gosh, it''s hard to believe that I've been home now a week since our Alaska Cruise on The NCL Sun. I'm maybe just starting to get back to normal. I've neglected my blog among other things but I've finally got my MoJo back!

I wanted to share this fabulous picture of the legendary Jane L. Powell and myself from our cruise. Jane was a headline performer with an amazing voice. She was fabulous both on the stage and off the stage with all of the passengers and crew. She is such a magnificent lady and beloved by everyone. I felt truly honored to make her acquaintance and enjoy her on stage.

Speaking of enjoying people, I had the honor of interviewing the wonderful Dr. Beth Erickson on Whine Time with January Jones last Thursday and I'm finally getting the world out. Dr. Beth is such a perfect guest with lots of great info presented in such a fun and easy going interview. I loved talking to her and hope you will find the time to listen to our interview. She is is a very wise and sensible women and a delightful guest.

Home again, home again and with such wonderful memories of our cruise to Alaska on The Norwegian Sun NCL. Here I am saying a fond good bye to our wonderful Cruise Director Pedro Serra who is the ultimate host. The Norwegian Sun is now my favorite cruise ship with everyone being so friendly and the ship itself has such a marvelous atmosphere. It is elegant but in a casual way.

As for the food, it was unbelievable and we so enjoyed having escargot with every evening meal.

As you can see for yourself, I loved sharing my book, Thou Shalt Not Whine with Captain Tommy Stensrud for his reading enjoyment. The highlight of our trip was going up to the bridge as his guests when we entered Sawyer Glacier. I gave the commentary and will be posting it on YouTube later this week.

NCL SUN CRUISE May 23rd

We are headed home to Vancouver on our final day at sea. The seas are smooth and the weather is fabulous. I did the wild life presentation this morning with a big turn out. My crack team with Captain Leif and Rod Proctor gave me outstanding technical support and even laughed at my jokes.

I gave out free autographed copies of my book after each presentation and today two men, Noel Winzenried and Steve Meng, were the winners. Neither one of them are whiners but they assured me that they know plenty of whiners and they would spread my no whining message .

Tonight we will be going to the talent show put on by the ship’s crew. What a wonderful crew and they are all Smileys with no Whineys. There are 952 crew members with a full ship of 1900 passengers. After the shows, we’ll be packing our bags and getting ready to disembark in the am and catch our flight back to LA.

NCL Sun Cruise May 22, 2009 Skagway was fabulous and the weather perfect. It is such a historical town and there were lots of lovely shops and townspeople (all 800 of them) around to welcome us. We rode The White Pass Railway to the top of Chilkoot Pass with great history and even greater views.

The highlight of our evening once back on board was The Chocolate Buffet last night. It was over the top and the perfect fantasy for a confirmed chocoholic like myself. I filled my plate but couldn’t even finish it. But I’m not whining about it.

Today is Leif’s birthday so we will be celebrating all day. We started out by giving my Alaskan Glacier presentation. It went really well with the action packed videos that are always fun to watch especially the one on glacier surfing.

The Norwegian Sun is headed south right now in open seas and we’re rock and rolling our way towards home. Tomorrow I will be giving the presentation on Alaskan wildlife. We had a new fellow join our crack traveling staff. Rod Proctor from Alberta Canada has been doing all the video and photo during my presentations. He is the greatest and his Mom is a real life Smiley.

NCL Sun May 20th Glaciers from the Captain’s Bridge

Yesterday we were invited by Captain Tommy Stensrud to join him on the bridge as we enter Tracy Arm Fjord on our way to view Sawyer Glacier. In true Norwegian custom, he offered us coffee and cookies as soon as we entered the bridge. You can never enter a Norwegian home without being offered food and drink without feeling their hospitality.

I gave a commentary on the breathtaking sights as we sailed past majestic mountains and beautiful chunks of ice towards the twin Sawyer glaciers. Alaska is our very favorite cruise.

It is quite an honor to be invited on the bridge. It brought back memories and of his father, grandfather and great grandfathers who were all Norwegian sea captains. There was lots of Norwegian bonding with Captain Tommy as in Yah, Yah and talking about Lutefisk.

Yesterday our ship stopped in Juneau and we explored the Alaskan state capitol. However I didn’t run into Sarah Palin. Juneau is a lovely, charming city and we have had the best weather imaginable for our entire cruise so far.

Today is an off day for me so we’ll kick back and visit at Skagway. We plan to take the White Pass train trip with all of the amazing history and scenic beauty. Then I will be speaking two more times on our return trip to Vancouver about glaciers and Alaskan wild life.

So far this has been the best working trip we’ve ever taken. The NCL feels so much like being at home in Norway and the staff and passengers are wonderful. Leif wants me to do this full time so we can spend the rest of our life being wined and dined on cruise ships!

NCL SUN ALASKA CRUISE MAY 19TH

Today we arrived at our first port of call, Ketchikan early in the am. We did a walking tour and ended up at Dolly Arthur’s House. Dolly was a famous madam from the early years in when Ketchikan was a major mining city.

It was a fun tour given by Dale in costume who used to play with Dolly’s dogs when Dale was just six years old. She loved spending time with Dolly even though her mother disapproved but since her father was the Chief of Police both Dolly and Dale could do whatever they wished then…..and now.

Dale was never a lady of the evening but she knows all about their life styles.
We saw lots of totem poles and stuffed animals and it is truly a lovely and eclectic little town.

When we got back to the ship, I gave my presentation on Goldrush women as we sailed out of port. I loved doing the research on this topic and then got to spend some informative time with Dale. She told me lots of little secrets that about what the ladies did and didn’t do in those days. It was a fun presentation and I’m growing to love working on the big stage.

Last night after dinner and the show, we had our picture taken on the deck. It was fabulous sunset and even though it looks like a fake one believe me it was real……a little windy and cold but beautiful.

Tomorrow we get to Juneau and then Skagway. I have two days off and will be giving two more presentations on Friday and Saturday. This working four hours a week is a schedule that I could get used to very quickly. Leif is acclimating well since he is ordering his favorites escargot and Ceasar salad every evening at dinner.

We will definitely be using the D word as in diet when we get home.

Here I am as we leave Vancouver on board the NCL Sun headed North to Alaska on the inside passage with stops at Ketchikan (Salmon and Totem Pole capitol) and Juneau the capital city of Alaska and on to Skagway where the Goldrush began for most miners as they crossed the Chilkoot Pass.

I did my first destination presentation this 9 am on Alaska history with an overview of our ports of call. I was a little nervous since I spoke with my power point presentation in the Stardust Lounge, the biggest theater on the ship.

Since my presentation was at 9 am, I figured it would be small event but I didn’t anticipate all the travelers from the east coast with the 3 hour time change so we had a great audience and lots of fun. Actually I think cruise ship speaking may be my very favorite new job. It sure is a lot easier and more enjoyable than golfing on television for money.

Tomorrow we dock in Ketchikan and leave port around 1 pm and my next presentation will be at 2 pm about the Goldrush with emphasis on the Women of The Klondike. I have adored doing the research on Alaska and especially on the brilliant and resourceful women who “Mined the Miners.” Fabulous ladies who were real women who defied stereotyping and often earned more than the miners.

Tonight we go to the Captain’s party and Leif is so happy since our Captain is from Norway. So we’ll be doing a lot of our pretend Norwegian with accents and all.

Two Fearless Women Golfers

Golf time is over and now it's North To Alaska time to speak on the NCL Sun Cruise Ship going to Ketchikan, Juneau and skagway along the inside passage with wonderful glacier viewing. I will be speaking on Alaskan History, Gold Rush, Glaciers and Wildlife.

World Series of Golf Re-Cap: I didn't win but I did get lots of camera time since Emily Gillette and I were the only two women playing. As you can see, we are still smiling even though we were consoling each other. She is just a darling gal and so wonderful and friendly. Emily is a great golfer and a great representative for Full Tilt Poker. You will see us both teeing off on WGN when the World Series 13 episodes are shown starting on June 28th. Congratulations to all the winners and all the competitors.

I would be remiss if I didn't thank my entourage who followed me around the course during my golfing adventure. All fifteen of them were there for me and I will never forget them and be grateful for all their hugs and encouragement. I'm so amazed that they came together to cheer for me from all over the country. It made me feel so special.

Also, my pro and caddy Roger Gunn who helped me train and get ready and walked the walk with me was monderful and so very patient and helpful. Can't forget my number # 1 fan...my husband, Leif, who was so excited and nervous for me. He's is the absolute best guy in the world. He even took me to see the Beattle's Show and the amazing Cher! Great time however next year.... I think I may let him play golf instead of me. I would rather be partying with January's Jokers!

I did a radio show from Las Vegas featuring John Slitz of The World Series of Golf and Andy Bloch, Superstar Poker Player. Thank you to John and Andy for such great interviews. I loved talking to both of you and hope we can do it again.

Now we are doing the laundry and packing so we can head North to Alaska in the morning. I will try to keep blogging from the ship and share our next adventure with all of you.

DAY One & Beyond: Andy Bloch and January Diss Joan Rivers

Here we are still in Vegas having a great time even if I did have to spend a little time consoling, Emily Gillette (wife of Penn) and Ray Romano as we all went down in the first round of The World Series of Golf. Emily and I were the only two women playing and you'll see us in action when the show airs on WGN.

I can't give you all the details but I can assure you that you will see me on camera when the show is on WGN the end of June.

I played in the group with the young, brilliant professional poker players Andy Bloch, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Danny Negreanu. We had so much fun and they all were wearing a Smiley/Whiney Pins by the end of our round. No whiners here ...........well maybe a little bit except for Danny who was our delightful winner!

Andy Bloch did an interview with me this am for my show and both Chris and Danny will be visiting with me soon on Whine Time. Andy and I dissed big time about how Joan Rivers attacked Annie Duke on Celebrity Apprentice.

Joan said, "All poker players were white trash!" Unbelievable!

Andy is a delight and has two electrical engineering degrees from MIT and a law degree from Harvard........so there Joan, can you top that? When you can try to listen to Andy's interview tomorrow along with John Slitz who is one of the creators of World Series of Golf. They are both delightful, funny and so interesting.

The All White Party was fabulous and I had so much fun chatting with Terry Fator, the headliner at the Mirage, and his cute little friend. Tonite we'll be at the closing party and then back to LA to get ready for the NCL Sun Cruise to Alaska leaving on Sunday from Vancouver. I will be the destination speaker with presentations on Alaska History, Gold Rush, Glaciers and Wildlife.

As you can see, I had breakfast this morning at the Mirage with my Entourage main men: Leif III, Andy, Darlin Dan, Brad and Brad's dad John. They are all here to support me on and off the golf course tomorrow and they have promised me that they will all be on their very best behavior, especially Brad and Darlin! Also, I was able to connect this am with my favorite World Series of Golf official photographer, Jonathan Leiweke. I love Jon so much because he has never take a bad picture of me so far that has ever surfaced. He's great about destroying all the bad ones.

We got to Vegas yesterday and did a light practice at Paiute with my husband and temporary coach that only went 5 hours. Tomorrow he will be replaced by my real pro, Roger Gunn who knows how to pace our practices.

After Leif tried to wipe me out, then we went to see the Beatles Love show last night that was awesome. Today is rest and spa day getting ready for the all White Party tonight at the Mirage Dolph Habitat. I will keep you posted. Wish you were here!

Everyone knows that the most common thing to say in idle chit-chat is “How about that weather?” or “Lovely weather we’re having” or something along those lines. But, have you ever noticed how often that leads to a conversation filled with complaints? And it’s not just talk about the weather, it’s everything. Until reading Thou Shalt Not Whine I hadn’t realized just how much of our every day life consisted of complaints.

Example
6:00AM Alarm goes off – ugghh it’s too early.
6:15AM Take shower – water’s never hot.
6:30AM Make breakfast – damn toaster always burns my toast.
7:00AM Drive to work – traffic’s terrible.
7:00AM Catch bus to work – bus is always crowded.
7:35AM Car-pool to work – Stupid Bob, he’s always late, his car is a mess, he used too much aftershave, his driving sucks and he drives me mad when he constantly hums along to the radio. 8:00AM … Etc. Etc. Etc. You get the picture.

January Jones has written a book about how whining happens and how to get rid of it. At times this book is very humorous, but many times it also comes across as very sensible. Some things that people whine about are complete crap, but sometimes a whine could actually be a complaint that can be dealt with in such a way that both “the whiner” and “the whined to” can reach an agreement and banish any whining for good (or at least for a while).

A good example of this is from the chapter Teenagers and deals with curfew. My boys were always whining about what time they had to be home, my rule was if it’s dark – you’re to come home. This solved the problem of them using the excuse that they had no watch, it’s not like they could deny the ability to look up and see whether it was a sun or moon above them. But still they whined, and I have to admit that in the winter when it gets dark early it is unfair. Anyways, January Jones suggestion for this particular whine, is to use the wonderful technology of cell phones. This was you can keep track of your kids, while they get a bit of freedom also. This was the solution I used a few years back, it was easy, sensible and so far (fingers crossed) we’ve had no major complaints. January Jones also points out that if you use this method, but your kids (who can sometimes be major pains in the posterior) decide not to answer their phones when you call to check up on them, remind them that cell phones can be equipped with GPS. (ahh technology is such a wonderful thing)

So who should read this book? And who can benefit from the whining cures that can be found in Thou Shalt Not Whine? And who can best use the explanations of how whining occurs? Take a look at this list:

Now, think about whether you fall into any of those categories. Also consider how many people you encounter that make up this list. If you can put mental check marks next to any of these, then odds are you may enjoy this book!

FINAL COUNT DOWN SIX DAYS TO GO until World Series of Golf in Las Vegas!

So just when I was starting to feel cool, calm and collected about my golf game, it was time to try out some new wedges for that extra feel around the green. They are Tour Edition wedges which would mean that they were made for good golfers unlike myself.

Well to make a long story short, I tried them and at first I loved them but then I began to feel too cocky and ended up in Shank Hell. Moral of the story is that the Golf Gods do not like you to ever feel good about your game. It is a big No, No!!

I've learned my lesson and I'm back to eating humble pie with memories of Shank Hell still fresh in my mind! Hopefully Sporty will cheer me up tomorrow morning and tell me what G-O-L-F means!

Okay, here's one that's been intriguing me for a bit: The World Series of Golf. Despite what its title seems to imply, it's got nothing to do with Game 7s; no, it's a golf tournament based on the World Series of Poker. (You know, that event they show endlessly on ESPN2, with pasty dudes in sunglasses and Unabomber hoods crouching behind piles of chips.)

The World Series of Golf has just signed a deal to run a 13-episode series on WGN. A previous version ran on CBS, but the organizers decided that broadcast TV was too restrictive -- which means, hopefully, more cleavage n' cussin' this time around.

Anyway, the deal: it's kind of a rule that if you like golf, you like poker -- what else are you supposed to do when you're not on the course, work? Talk to your spouse? Pfah! So why not combine the two?

Basically, you're betting on each hole as if it were a hand of poker, anteing up, checking, raising or bluffing after every shot. You come into the round with a stack of chips, and you can earn more or bust out along the way. It's certainly not any more complicated than many bastardized Nassau variants, and I'm all for any game that lets you get into the head of your opponents with every shot. And with a top prize of $300K -- following a $10,000 entry fee, of course -- it'd be worth it to polish up your bluffing skills as much as your approach shots.

Just one question: how do you keep all the chips from falling off the back of the golf cart?

Here are the details about the reality golf show that I will be playing in within ONE WEEK in Las Vegas! This will be the first time in golfing history that a chronologically challenged "GLAMother" with be competing for $300,000 in prize money.

Network Will Provide 26 Hours Of Coverage Of Event Combining Links, Betting Play

WGN America will tee off its coverage of the World Series of Golf event in late June.
Combining amateur golf play with betting aspects, the third annual event is slated to be played May 11-14, 2009 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.

Beginning on June 27 and 28, WGN, which counts some 71 million households, will air 13 original hours, plus 13 encores through September 19 and 20. Saturday coverage is tentatively slated to begin at 1 p.m. (ET); Sunday coverage is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. During its first two years, CBS aired a pair of hours apiece from the event.

The World Series of Golf is open to all amateur golfers age 21 and older. Proprietary play incorporates a $10,000 entry fee. Players ante at each tee box. After teeing off in a pre-determined order, they have the option to call or raise the bets of competitors in their pairing, or to fold the hole. Players who fold lose any bets they have committed to the pot and rejoin play on the next tee.

Players who remain in the action continue to bet prior to each subsequent shot, building the pot as they move from the tee to the green. The player who wins the hole - either by stroke count or by forcing his or her competitors to fold - wins the pot.

Players are eliminated when their $10,000 purse is exhausted or so depleted they cannot pay the ante on the next tee. Players who win their initial pairing advance to the tournament's second round and recoup their $10,000 buy-in. Players who win their second-round pairing advance to the final round and are guaranteed a cash prize of at least $30,000. The winner of the event receives a cash prize of $300,000.

"This agreement is a cornerstone of our long-range strategic plan to build the World Series of Golf brand, increase value for our shareholders and partners, and maximize our visibility among new audiences," said World Series of Golf president Terry Leiweke. "The enhanced broadcast platform we have established with WGN America will introduce our high-stakes format combining the best of golf and no-limit hold'em poker to millions of potential event participants nationwide."

World Series of Golf on WGN America Cable Network

January with Terry Leiweke in Las Vegas!

World Series of Golf headed by Terry Leiweke announced that their tournament will be televised on The WGN America Cable Network to be aired in the middle of May in 13 one-hour episodes.

I will be one of four women competeing against a field of 125 players in a Texas Hold 'em. Players can go all-in after their tee shot, or fold and move on to the next hole if they hit a lousy shot. I am really looking forward to the folding aspect of this tournament.

The player with the fewest strokes each hole wins the pot for that hole. Automatic bets, or antes, increase every three holes, driving up betting and the pots. Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted on this exciting adventure into the world of golf and gambling!

Tim Gallwey Shares The Inner Game of Golf with January Jones

Author and golfer, January Jones will be interviewing Tim Gallwey, author of The Inner Game of Golf, this week on her radio show Whine Time with January Jones on VoiceAmerica.com. Ms. Jones will be getting advice from Tim helping her to get ready for The World Series of Golf in Las Vegas on May 11- 14th.

To quote January, “ It’s now or never. It's crunch time and I need not only the Inner but the Outer Game of Golf.”

The tournament will be played with a poker and golf format sponsored by FullTiltPoker.net January will be 1 of 4 women competing against men in a field of 125 with 5 flights. January is a senior advocate representing all of the "chronologically challenged competitors" in the golf world. This event is a TV reality golf competition that will be played at The Paiute Resort in Las Vegas on May 12-13th to be televised as a 13 week reality golf series on the WGN Cable Channel.

I'm so pleased to have Tim Gallwey as my guest tomorrow on "Whine Time with January Jones" at 9 am PT. Like so many others, I remember Tim from his first book, the Inner Game of Tennis. Actually it was more like "The Bible" for my generation of tennis players.

So guess what happened? Now we are all trying to master the game of golf and Tim has come to our rescue again with The Inner Game of Golf. It seems that you really can teach old dogs some new tricks.

I read Tim's book on the way over to Vegas for our World Series of Golf practice round. Like all true addicts, I couldn't put it down and devoured every page and every little tip or thought that Tim shared with us other addicts. Now I trying to digest the feast that The Inner Game of Golf serves up or rather I should say tees up.

As for my practice round at Paiute in Vegas, it was a blast. I got to the 16th hole before I ran out of money. Obviously, I don't want to peak too soon and I didn't. We'll be playing for real in three weeks and in the meantime, practice makes perfect or so I am told by my husband, my new trainer.

World Series of Golf will be presenting our tournament on WGN Cable Channel as a 13 week Reality Golf TV series with 13 re-runs. So if I play my cards right and wear bright enough clothes, I hope to get some camera time and promote my book.

As for the poker part of the tournament, I played Texas hold 'Em while in Vegas and won $34. So now, I'm ready to take on the serious poker players too. I'm sure they are really worried about me. I have the perfect poker face since I smile when I win and I smile when I lose.

No Whining here......just Smiling!!

January's Jokers Opening Day

Today was the opening day for The Thousand Oaks Senior Softball season! I am sponsoring a team called January's Jokers comprised of some of the most enthusiastic softball players in the world.

I watched their game his morning and posed with the team managers, Lars Schalk and Leif Jonassen, along with an entire team picture. Sadly, they did not win their opener but they'll be back next week with a victory plan of attack.

Good Luck to January's Jokers and I'll keep you posted on their season!

Just returned from the Annual AATH Convention in Las Vegas and it was a HOOT! As usual, we had the best time ever and loved re-connecting with our old friends and making so many new ones. It is an affair to remember fondly due to all the caring clowns and wonderful members.

The speakers were awesome and left us with great memories and just a few tears. Even spent a little time with Frank and Barbara doing the Concert That Never Was at The Riviera Hotel.

AATH is so special because it makes everyone feel good about themselves and want to try harder to help others with hope and humor throughout the year. I have invited several of the speakers to do interviews on my radio show this year so you'll be meeting some fabulous friends of mine in 2009! I can't wait to share them with all of you.

Humor When We Need It Most!

“Do you know the difference between a recession and a depression? A recession is when you lose your job. A depression is when I lose mine!”

So humorizes, January Jones, author of Thou Shalt Not Whine…The Eleventh Commandment and radio host of Whine Time with January on voiceamerica.com from Westlake Village, CA and a member of AATH - the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. The mission of this international community of professionals, founded in 1987, is to study, practice and promote healthy humor and laughter.

“Sure, the economy is ailing,” admits Ms. Jones but it’s the people who are really getting sick of all this bad news they’re being force-fed on TV and in the papers. You do remember newspapers, don’t you? They managed to survive for 300 years until sound-bite, sensational journalism staged a hostile takeover!”

“Shared laughter, humor and a smile comprise an international ‘language’ that connects all of mankind,” muses Ms. Jones who is the Chair for the AATH Jest Friends Program and is their official “Whine Jester.”

January along with hundreds of humor enthusiasts and professionals from around the world will convene in Las Vegas, April 2-5, 2009 for the 22nd Annual AATH Conference, “Healthy Humor: Hitting the Wellness Jackpot!” Focusing on theory and application in the fields of health care, education and business, the conference will offer ‘continuing education,’ networking opportunities, and fun for professionals who use humor and laughter in their jobs to enhance work performance, support learning, and promote healing, whether physical, emotional, social, or spiritual.

The AATH conference purposely coincides with ‘April Fools Day’ and the global celebration of Humor Month. But, Ms. Jones is quick to add a word of caution. “While ‘April Fools Day’ jokes and pranks may elicit laughter, they often tend to contradict the essence of ‘healthy’ humor.” According to AATH, cites Jones, “Healthy, therapeutic humor enhances relationships, is non-hostile, sympathetic, benevolent, tolerant, and often philosophical. AATH is careful to distinguish it from hurtful, harmful humor that is more aggressive, critical, sarcastic, cruel, often based on put-do wns, and involves laughing at someone else’s expense.”

For this year’s conference, AATH has already registered people from as far away as Australia, China, New Zealand, India, Japan, Israel, Korea, England, Denmark and all across North America. With its international membership, AATH spreads the message that humor and laughter do have a place in creating healthier, more effective environments in which to live, work and play!

“Preserving your sense of humor is the essential, daily medication needed for maintaining your mental health,” prescribes the Whine Jester. “Being able to laugh at this current economic mess, which we will get through, helps to sustain our emotional balance, our ‘quality of life,’ especially in the darkest of hours.”

Jones explains it with humorous, historical perspective, “It’s a little known fact… it was either Patrick Henry or Buck Henry… or maybe it was Henry Paulson or Pat Paulson who, prior to defiantly stating, “Give me liberty or give me death,” also proclaimed with a smile, “They may take my IRA, but they’ll never take my sense of humor!”

A smiling Ms. Jones summarizes, “We may not have control over trillion-dollar deficit spending, but we do have control over how we choose to approach each day that we wake up on this side of the dirt! This is the most amazing putter that I have ever held in my hands and believe me ( like most golfers) I've tried lots, and lots of them! January tees off with World Series of Golf

World Series of Golf Get Acquainted Event Feb. 23rd!

Here we are in Las Vegas at fabulous Paiute Golf Resort. Isn't that blue sky amazingly beautiful? As you can see it was a bright and beautiful event even if it was a little chilly.

I loved wearing all my new Taylor Made adidas-outfits plus their "Burner 09"clubs performed beyond belief. Also, I can't forget the GX1 Yar Golf putter that won the 9th hole with a twenty footer. Now that really was something to enjoy watching! It really was fun walking around looking like my book cover all co-ordinated with my signature colors red, yellow and black.

It was a big day for Thou Shalt Not Whine since there was no whining allowed on the course!

I was a little nervous playing in the World Series of Golf practice Get Acquainted event but once it got going I had the best time ever. It really is a format that any player at any level can have fun with and I even won a some holes which was amazing and astounding!

Everyone was was so friendly, so helpful and so encouraging. The format is all about strategy and how to maximize your skills at the right time for the right amount. Believe me, it's more fun than real golf because you can fold whenever you've hit a crummy shot.

The World Series of Golf is the perfect format for all "Chronologically Challenged Competitors" of all ages and at all stages of life. Be sure to tune in to watch it on June 28th on CBS Sports.

Things are getting back to normal, whatever that is, around here and we're editing my DVD from The PGA Show with Golf Tips from the Experts to help me get ready for The World Series of Golf on May 13th. Here is a sneak preview of the interview that I did with the world famous instructor, David Leadbetter. It was so great to meet him in person and get to chat with him for a short time.

He was so sweet and genuinely reassuring. I'm hoping some of his calm, cool manner will rub off on me. We're off to Las Vegas this weekend to play a practice round for the tournament. It will be a trial run so the competitors can get use to the poker format. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully palying well enough not to be embarrassed.

Also, I'm also getting ready to launch my new LIVE radio show "Whine Time with January Jones" on www.VoiceAmerica.com on Thursday, March 5th at 9:00 am PST. Right now I'm working with my wonderful producer, Jon Missall and I think we'll have some great shows lined up and ready to go by launch time with "Whine Time."

January Jones Seeking Solutions with Suzanne Roberts and Robert Wagner

This was quite a week! It started on Monday when I flew back to Philadelphia to be a guest on "Seeking Solutions with Suzanne" hosted by Suzanne Roberts. We taped the show on Tuesday morning and Ms. Roberts, who is a proud 86 year old, was the most gracious hostess and everyone on her set were wonderful too!

Of course, I loved getting my make-up and hair done with lots of goodies in the green room . As for the set, it is to die for. It was so warm and welcoming that I wished I could live there all the time. Plus, the food was fabulous and the entire crew were delightful. Especially my segment producer, Laurie Jentes, who is absolutely the best.

On the show our topic was "Dying without Whining" from my book, Thou Shalt Not Whine and we had a fun filled time with a really tough topic. It truly was a girl talk session with two "chronologically challenged" gals who came up with some really innovative solutions for whining about dying and lot of other whines too!

I'll let you know when the show will be televised on CN8 and then a five minute segment on CNN Headlines News to follow.

Then on Friday, Robert Wagner spent his birthday with all of his fans at our home town library.
As you can see we traded books, with his Pieces of My Heart and TSNW, and shared a few laughs. R. J. is still one of the most handsome men around our town and one of the most gracious.

He is going to pass TSNW on to his gorgeous daughter, Katie Wagner who co-hosted the evening with her Dad. Her son is adorable and just as handsome as his Grandfather.

It doesn't get much better than a week with "The Two Roberts!'

for a man...

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a folded flag, but did not put two and two together.

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant, who'd been invited to sit in First Class ( across from me), and inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded

Heading out I asked?

No. I'm escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?

No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq, I'm taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him. He told me that, although he didn't know the soldier, he had delivered the news of his passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them after many conversations in so few days.

I turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you. Thank you for doing what you do so my family and I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago , the pilot stopped short of the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom. 'Ladies! and gentlemen, I would like to note that we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight. He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to his family. I ask that you please remain in your seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier. We will then turn off the seat belt
sign.'

Without a sound, all went as requested. I noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was brought off the plane, and his action made me realize that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority.' We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking
numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of American's supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that .. every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not belong before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is 'We need your support and your prayers.' Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

January Jones & Mr. Smiley at The PGA Merchandise Show

Here's a great big, heartfelt "Thank You" to all my friends at Yar Golf, Taylor Made - adidas Golf, JH Gloves and especially Bogie Bob from January Jones and Mr. Smiley!

We are finally home after one of the best promotional events that I have ever attended. The PGA Merchandise Show was amazing, astounding and absolutely the most fun Mr. Smiley and I have had ever since he made the traveling team.

Actually, this was Mr. Smiley's first trip and truthfully he was the hit of the show. If I had been able to clone him, we would have sold out the first day. Also we discovered that he is the biggest "Chick and Child Magnet" in the world. As you can see, everyone loved him and he loved them right back doing all of his tricks non-stop from morning to night.

We had quite a time networking and meeting some of the biggest names in golf...names like Annika, Lorena, Boo and Butch. Everyone loved my book and I picked up all sorts of tips for my World Series of Golf Tournament in Las Vegas on May 12th. I'll be sharing the all the secret tips with all of you since I know you can keep secrets too!

The best news was that I got my official engraved GX1 Yar putter and it's the most amazing putter that I have ever used. I absolutely love it. I am the spokeswoman but I'd play with it even if I had to pay for it. I'm the one who loved it at first putt last year in Vegas and now I love it even more. Plus all the folks working for Yar Golf are the best ever. this is really a Smiley group and they adopted Mr. Smiley as the Yar Golf mascot.

I didn't know this but the putter was originally created to allow one-armed veterans from the Iraq War to be able to play golf. However it is the perfect putter for "Chronologically Challenged Competitors" like myself who never, ever want to bend over again to pick up a ball, ball marker or putter.

When I arrived, Taylor Made - adidas Golf had shipped my new wardrobe to the hotel. I was in heaven with all sorts of new outfits from Taylor Made and Ashworth. How did they know that shoes (and especially golf shoes) are my not so secret passion? The outfits and shoes are to die for and I almost did when I had to walk back and forth everyday at the biggest golf event in the country and the world. We must have walked at least 20 miles a day and I'm not kidding!

I can't forget to mentions my great JH Gloves that were especially made in red and yellow to match the cover of my book. As any woman knows it's not about how you play the game but how you look when you actually do play!

I've lots more good stuff to share and more secrets.

January Jones meets Golf Legends Nancy Lopez and Jan Stephenson

One of the biggest thrills for me at this PGA show was getting to meet and chat with both Nancy Lopez and Jan Stepehson. They were both so wonderful and gracious and I couldn't believe that I was actually talking to two legends of women's golf. What an incredible honor, I got so emotional with Nancy that I started to tear up and then she did too! Talk about being gracious, she'll even cry with you.

As you can see Jan is such a beauty. She looks marvelous and is a truly delightful gal. I felt like I've known her forever. Both Jan and Nancy gave me some great tips for playing in the World Series of Golf on video that'll I'll be posting on YouTube and then sharing the advice right here with all of you.

It's been an amzaing experience and I'll fill in all the details once I get back to California. Mr. Smiley is having a great time too. He is the hit of the show and has been working his tail off at the Yar Booth helping all of us promote the GX1. We finish tomorrow and we're off to Sarasota to visit Smiley's cousin Kiley. They both love to sing so I'll try to get a photo of them doing a duet. Or better yet, I'll try to video it.

January Jones Gets Golf Tips From David Leadbetter and Butch Harmon

The PGA Merchandise Show is a golfer's paradise. I was just walking up and down the aisle's and was able to get some great advice and encouragement from two of the greatest golf teachers in the world. Once I told them that I was playing in the World Series of Golf as a "chronologically challenged competitor" they were so helpful. David Leadbetter told me to play within myself (that could be a problem) and to practice my chipping and putting.

My chipping could be problem but putting is my favorite part of the game since I got my new custom made GX1 with my named engraved today from Yar Golf.

Taylor Made - adidas Golf sent me the greatest outfits to wear and they all match my book cover.
It's not how you play but how you look that's important for women!

Butch Harmon is the exact same age as myself and he told me to be sure to not over train and get injured before the tournament in May. So now I have an excuse to pace myself and not go overboard practicing!

I met so many more great players like in Annika and Boo. and many more. There will be more pictures and stories tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on all my goflfing adventures in Orlando! This so much fun!!!

January and PR Pup Mr. Smiley visit The National Association of Catering Executives

Last night my PR Pup, Mr. Smiley, finally made it to the big time and he's now on the official January Jones traveling team. We spoke together at the National Association of Catering Executives at the Marriott Hotel in Marina Del Rey, Ca.

Here we are with our gracious hosts NACE President Jodi who just happened to be the winner of our gift tote bag and book, Thou Shalt Not Whine, along with their wonderful and warm, events chairman, LaTonia Allen.

Mr. Smiley was the star of the evening and was on his very, very best behavior as we shared the Doggy Cure for Whining for the first time. It goes like this: Try to live each day like Mr. Smiley!
A dog never lives in the past or the future. They live each day, each moment in the present. Every meal, every walk, every morning is the best one ever. Dogs (and cats and all animals) live life with unconditional love and they know how to enjoy each precious moment. If you can try to live in the moment with unconditional love then you will no longer be a "Whiner," then you will be just like Mr. Smiley.

It was a fun night since I was able to speak to my fellow workers in the food service industry. I started out as a waitress, then a stewardess, then a restaurant owner, then a facilities manager and party planner so I have paid my dues and can walk the walk. But as you know now I enjoy talking the talk and meeting so many wonderful caring and giving people from NACE.

It can be a difficult job with lots of whining opportunities but mostly is a rewarding career helping people to celebrate life with great food and great caterers.

Tomorrow Mr. Smiley and I are flying out to go to the PGA Merchandising show in Orlando, FL so we'll be doing golf networking there. We're looking forward to meeting some of the biggest names in golf.

After Orlando, we are going to visit with Mr. Smiley's cousin, Kiley Davenport, in Sarasota. I'll be sure to get a picture of them singing/howling together.

This will be Mr. Smiley's first flight so I'm working out the logistics. The big question is how to travel with a dog who is not a terrorist but carries a battery pack just like the Energizer Bunny! I'll keep you posted and take lots of pictures.

Sisters Week and Nationl Girlfriends Day

I received this Sisters Girlfriends Day reminder today from my dear friend of of over 45 years, Jean Green who has always been like a sister to me throughout the years.
